Arguably the most successful anti-poverty social program that the US has ever institutionalized, Laursen details how Social Security is the "glue" that binds citizens together as a community. He unveils in-depth research on revelations from the Clinton Administration's plan to radically restructure Social Security, the retirement crisis, the personalities that have driven the three-decade long struggle to restructure/eliminate/defend Social Security, and the newest challenges we face in this recent financial crisis. Why is the most popular and successful social program in U.S. history, responsible for lifting generations out of poverty, now under continual assault by elements of the U.S. political elite? Laursen suggests that the only solution is taking Social Security out of the government's hands altogether. Email info@redemmas.org or call 410-230-0450.

"Esperanza's Passage" is a Forum Theatre piece which, through sound and images, tells the story of a migrant woman's journey from Mexico to the US. The intention with this piece is to recognize ourselves within the reality faced by women as mothers, comadres (Godsisters/close friends), and sisters. Sexual harassment, discrimination, labor exploitation, solitude, and family separation are some of the themes explored in this piece. The passage of Esperanza (hope) is also our path.

"You Don't Spell Woman with the Same M in Macho" tells the story of three women who have been marginalized and silenced through normalized expressions of violence against women. The play, divided in three monologues, investigates in a bold and entertaining way themes that are often challenging to consider like domestic violence, sexual identity and sexual harassment.

The organizers of the event are looking for ways to promote community organizations in Baltimore serving Latino audiences.  If you are interested in sponsoring, helping spread the word or holding an information table at our event please contact Laura at lgudgelgriffin@gmail.com.
